Windsurfers out in the waters of Hamilton Island. |
Our hotel just past the coastline, the Reef View. |
After having a fabulous breakfast on the balcony of our room at the Parkwood B&B, Ursula offered that we leave our extra luggage in their garage since our car would be spending the next 4 days in public car parks while we were on Hamilton Island and sailing. Wow! She and George went out of their way to make us feel special. They even offered to drive us to the marina so the car could stay at their place, but we decided to take it as we didn't know what time we'd return and we need to transfer to the other marina. We wished we could have stayed longer, and they didn't seem to want us to leave.
We boarded the 'high speed catamaran' ferry yesterday at about 1 pm and we were on the island and checked into our upgraded room by 2pm. We had been booked at the Palm Bungalows, but they were renovating some of them so they offered us an upgraded accommodation in the Reef View...nice room! We walked the island some and were swimming and sitting by the pool by 3, and later on the beach. Brittany joined in with 5 others to play some beach volleyball. One of the players was from Toronto and even knew were Uxbridge was! The others were all good friends but were from all corners of the world...two Americans, Russia & Tibet. Once the Russian left, an Aussie joined in. We got back to the room just in time to avoid a thunderstorm in the evening. We washed the beach sand off, grabbed the shuttle to the marina and enjoyed some of the best fish & chips we ever had. We were back in the room when the second thunderstorm hit. Safe & sound.
Today, the weather couldn't have been more perfect! Beautiful ocean breezes, sunshine, low humidity...perfect! We toured the island a little more in the morning, skyped with Joe, Ren, Courtney and my parents from noon to 1, sat by the pool for the afternoon, walked into the ocean on the beach, washed off the beach sand, made it into the marina where I chose to have fish & chips again and Brittany enjoyed a burger (with beets on it!). We beat the thunderstorm home, and now it is raining again. Let it rain at night, and look forward to the sun in the day.
Tomorrow morning we need to pack light for our sailing trip, ferry back to the Airlee Beach, change marinas & check in to sail off into the islands on the Whitsunday Blue at 3pm. We will be landing back at the marina on the 10th at about 2 pm. At that point we will get our bags from George & Ursula, check to see if the flood waters have receded so we can drive through Rockhampton on the 11th or not. Depending on the news, we will then verify the rest of our itinerary.
We are having a wonderful time! Pretty sure you won't hear from us again for a few days as we will be 'out to sea' :)
We hear it's snowing at home...enjoy :)
Love,
Kim (and Brittany)
